After 3 years in Toronto, a first album released on MapleMusic Recordings and many Canadian tours, Kill The Lights is back with their ambitious second effort, "Fog Area"

The release of Buffalo of Love in 2006 garnered the band a slew of accolades and saw them tour with the likes of K-OS and You Say Party! We Say Die! Having survived the vagaries of the road – which included moose through windshields, stolen cars, and strandings in remote areas - Kill The Lights sought elusive visions of control and decided to move back home to Montreal. In sessions between April 2008 and May 2009, they recorded the album at Breakglass Studios with Jace Lasek. Rich in sonic textures, Fog Area is a hybrid and highly original mix of psychedelic rock, ambient pop and electro-meditation.

Fog Area is the story of a fight against darkness, of a search for gold amid modern urban decay, of hallucinations in shadowy forests, of love balming existential murk, of total terror in the face of the unknown. The songs on Fog Area are poetic bursts of noise inspired by everything we cannot control. Composed and recorded against a backdrop of failed love, friendships tested or ruined, and line-up changes, Fog Area also encapsulates the sound of a band fighting for its survival. Alex Hackett, singer, guitarist and lyricist for the group, explains the title of the album: “On the road to New York City to put the last nail in the coffin of a 6-year relationship, in the dead of winter, totally unsure of my future, I passed through Vermont and got stuck in a giant snowstorm. Totally snow-blinded, cars were moving at a crawl, and the only sign I could read was FOG AREA, over and over again. I thought it was so surreal, it was an omen, it was one of those moments that stunned me as being totally symbolic. I’d been trying for so long to put into words my state of mind and the state of the band in the previous months, and there the road was whispering it to me, endlessly.” The Fog Area behind them now, Kill The Lights is set to launch this brand new album at Le Divan Orange on September 2nd.
